Ten November By Stephen Dietz
Project type
Ten November
Date
November 2024
Location
Vermont
This scenic design for Ten November centers around a large, central revolve, allowing for fluid shifts between the ship’s interior, courtroom testimonies, and memory-laden shorelines. The revolve anchors the production in motion, mirroring the relentless momentum of the Edmund Fitzgerald’s final journey and the tide of voices that follow.
Surrounding the revolve are three distinct levels or landings, each representing a different narrative plane—the ship's deck, a mid-level for witnesses and investigators, and an upper platform for memory, myth, and the voices of the lost. These levels interweave visually and physically, allowing scenes to stack, echo, and flow across time.
Together, the revolve and vertical composition reinforce the haunting fragmentation and poetic layering of the text, drawing audiences deeper into the storm.
